2013 September 16: This decision is consistent with the objectives of the Telecommunications Act and the GoJ’s current ICT policy to foster increased competition for the provision of wireless broadband and telecommunications services and in particular to ensure fair, efficient and effective management of the radio frequency spectrum.

Position Paper on Mobile Spectrum Holdings Policy

2013 August 12: This Position Paper has been prepared by the Spectrum Management Authority (SMA) in collaboration with the ICT Division within the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining (MSTEM).  The information provided herein are for those parties currently providing or are considering providing mobile services to the public in Jamaica.  The paper outlines the proposed mobile spectrum holdings policy which recommends the establishment of a maximum limit on the aggregate holdings of spectrum (spectrum cap) in the listed frequency bands: 700MHz, 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, and 1900MHz.
